The 2020 Jeep Gladiator

Every Jeep enthusiast was happy when the new Gladiator was unveiled for mass production in this year’s LA Auto Show. If it were a boxer, then it would be Tyson Fury because it is making an impossible comeback just like he did against Deontay Wilder. This is the first pickup truck that the automaker has made since the death of the Comanche in 1992. The Gladiator pickup truck has been based around the automaker’s successful Wrangler SUV. The new Gladiator’s main selling points include its 5-foot long bed, brand allure, removable soft and hard tops, and its solid off-road ability. It is a 5-passenger 4-door crew cab pickup. The Gladiator and the Ford Ranger have made a comeback at the best time possible; there is a rapid increase in midsized pickup truck sales.

What is under the hood?

This midsized pickup truck is available with two engines: a turbo diesel engine with a capacity of 3.0 liters or a 3.6-liter V6 engine. The 285 hp gasoline-fueled V6 is offered as the Gladiator’s standard engine; it delivers 260 pound-feet of torque. The automaker will present the 260 hp diesel engine in 2020; with this engine you should expect 442 pound-feet of torque. This pickup truck might be based on the Wrangler but the automaker will not offer its turbo four-cylinder engine. This vehicle can tow up to 7,650 pounds. The payload capacity can reach up to 1,600 pounds. Just like the Wrangler, drivers can personalize the Gladiator using various configurations for axle ratios and axles, be it serious off-roaders or everyday drivers. It works with an 8-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual transmission.

How safe is it?

It is as safe as an egg in a nest. Jeep has revealed that the new Gladiator will come with many driver-assist and advanced safety features. These features include a rearview camera that also boasts of having dynamic guidelines, rear cross traffic alert, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and blind spot monitoring. Currently, only the higher trims of the Wrangler offer these features. The Rubicon version comes with a clever forward-facing camera that helps the driver to steer past challenging trails.

How much will I spend to acquire the new Jeep Gladiator?

The manufacturer has not revealed the price of this midsized pickup, but we predict that it will cost around $34,000. We have made this conclusion in consideration that you’ll currently spend $31,445 for the 4-door Wrangler.

When can I buy it?

You should expect the 2020 Jeep Gladiator in the second quarter of next year. We are sure that this vehicle will sell like crazy. Why? Well, the reason is simple, Americans love Jeeps, and they love pickup trucks. The Gladiator also has an obvious added advantage; it stands out when compared to other pickups available in the market; for instance, it boasts of being the market’s only open-air pickup (this means that you can literally remove its doors and drive in a hot desert.)

What does the interior offer?

The interior is a nice blend of intuitive functionality and polished details. The interior is very similar to that of the Wrangler. It looks rugged and far from luxurious. We love the grippy rubber knobs and chrome-rimmed dash vents. It comes with features like removable Bluetooth, an 8.4-inch touchscreen that is the largest in the class, android auto and 4C Nav with Apple CarPlay. In addition to this, the interior offers convenience and innovative storage solutions.

What is our verdict?

The 2020 Gladiator is the ultimate vehicle for adventures. I mean, you can let the air in by removing the doors and folding the windshield! It is a unique off-roader that has been molded around the Wrangler’s virtues and characteristics. It is impressive that it has the best payload and towing ability in its class. We love that it can be easily customized thanks to its robust aftermarket support. However, we expect it to also come with the Wrangler’s weaknesses like a poor fuel economy, excessive wind noise, awkward access, and a rough ride. All in all, we expect it to continue in the Wrangler’s path of success.
