Škoda Karoq Review

Škoda raised their CUV to a new level when they replaced the Yeti with the high-end Karoq. The Yeti is a tall, boxy CUV that Škoda manufactured from 2009 to 2017. The Karoq looks more modern and aerodynamic with sculpted sides, a sweeping roofline and an updated front end. It has lots of room for people and cargo, plenty of available technology, multiple trim levels, and a very reasonable base price. Here are the answers to questions you may have about the Škoda Karoq.


Is the Škoda Karoq available in the United States?

The new Karoq is available in nearly every country except the United States. Škoda is a Czech car manufacturer. Their vehicles, including the Karoq, are usually manufactured in the Czech Republic. They moved Karoq production to Germany temporarily, though, while the Czech facility undergoes some upgrades.


How expensive is the Škoda Karoq?

The Karoq is reasonably priced. In the UK a base Karoq has a starting MSRP of £21,035 which converts to $27,877. The most expensive trim starts out at £31,905 or $42,283.


How many different trims are there for the new Karoq?

There are four trims levels for the Karoq. The available trims are the SE, SE Technology SE L and the Karoq Edition.


Are Android Auto and Apple CarPlay available in the Škoda Karoq?

They are actually standard in all Karoq trims, including the base SE. Additional standard infotainment features include Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control with speed limiter and DAB radio. The SE Technology trim comes with all that plus an Amundsen satellite navigation system. The new Karoq does get good gas mileage. The most fuel-efficient engine gets 61 mpg in the city and 64 mpg on the highway. The least fuel-efficient trim gets 50 mpg in the city and 51 mpg on the highway.


How much cargo room is there in the Škoda Karoq?

The Karoq has 17 to 21 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seat, thanks to VarioFlex seating. VarioFlex rear seats can be slid forward like front seats. The back seats also fold forward for more room and can even be removed completely. With the rear seats removed, the Karoq has nearly 64 cubic feet of cargo space. In addition to that, there are extra storage compartments within the cabin. There’s a huge storage box within the center armrest and an umbrella holster beneath the passenger seat.


Is the Karoq an all-wheel-drive SUV?

The Karoq is available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The all-wheel drive is only available with the 2.0-L diesel engine, though.


Is there more than one engine available for the Škoda Karoq?

There are four different engine options for the Karoq. The available options are a 1.0-L gas engine, a 1.5-L gas engine, a 1.6-L diesel engine and a 2.0-L diesel engine. All of the engines can come paired with either a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed automatic DSG transmission. The new Karoq is built on the Volkswagen Group MQB platform.


Does the Karoq come equipped with the latest active-assist safety features?

Autonomous emergency braking, rear parking sensors, and automatic headlights come standard in even the base SE trim. The SE Technology trim also comes with adaptive cruise control. Front and rear parking sensors and a rearview camera are added when you step up to the SE L trim. All that plus blindspot monitoring with rear traffic alert, lane assist and traffic sign recognition come standard in the Karoq Edition.


Which CUV’s are similar to the Škoda Karoq?

The Karoq’s closest competition is the Mazda CX-5, Nissan Qashqai and Peugeot 3008. In North America, the Nissan Qashqai is known as the Rogue Sport. The Peugeot 3008 is not available in the United States at this time. Other similar vehicles that are available in the United States and are as good or better than the Karoq are the Honda CR-V and Ford Escape. They are similarly equipped and less expensive than the Karoq.
