Ford continues to not only maintain the integrity of its truck line but improve on it. Standard features on these models are as good as you would expect from Ford and the new possible options are pretty impressive, too. The F-150 trucks won awards across the board this year, and the SuperDuty trucks held their own. Ford is keeping up with the latest technology with SYNC and MyKey. They have also brought the power with a new twin-turbo engine in the Raptor, kept mileage rates as green as possible for heavy trucks and kept their prices within the realm of reasonable.

1

What are the best Ford truck models?

37

All of them. The Ford F-150 and Raptor are Car and Driver’s #1 and #2, respectively. Motor Trend and U.S. News and World Report say the F-150 is the #1 truck of the year. Motor Trend is also deeply smitten with the Ford Super Duty. Car and Driver also like the F-250 Super Duty, giving it 5 out of 5 stars, but they disagree a little on the F-350. It got only 3 stars out of 5.

There are 7 F-150 models: XL, XLT, Lariat, Raptor, King Ranch, Platinum and Limited. The Super Duty Fords, both the F-250 and F-350, come in either XL or XLT models.

2

Does Ford offer a truck with a diesel engine?

32

Not in their 2017 models. However … there is one available in 2018. So, if you really want a Ford F-150 with a diesel V6 that is comparable to the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, you might just want to hold off on that new truck. The diesel engine will be the 3.0L Power Stroke. There are some external changes to the 2018 that you might like, too. It has a sleeker look with a bold new grill and an embossed tailgate.

3

How expensive are the F-150's?

21

The cheapest is the F-150 XL which starts at around $27,000. The XLT starts at about $32,500. The sporty Raptor starts out at about $50,000. The King Ranch is about the same as the Raptor, starting out at around $51,000. The Platinum edition starts out around $53,500, and the Limited Edition starts at about $60,000.

The SuperDuty Fords are in the same price range as the XLT. The F-250 XL starts out at $32,500 while the XLT starts at $36,740. The F-350 XL starts out at $33,705 while the XLT starts out around $38,000.

What are some of the best standard features on the new Ford trucks?

21

The F-150 XL basic 4×2 model comes with independent front suspension, fully boxed frame, power rack-and-pinion steering and trailer sway control, 3.5L Ti-VCT V6 engine, SelectShift automatic transmission with Progressive Range Select and electronic 6-speed transmission with tow/haul mode and sport mode. The 10-speed transmission is an available optional but only when you opt for the 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine. If you step it up to the 4×4 model, you get electronic shift-on-the-fly with neutral towing capability. Other optional goodies available on the XL are TBC or trailer brake controller, hill descent control, electronic locking rear differential and an axle upgrade.

The XLT comes with pretty much the same standard features as the XL plus front, manual driver and passenger lumbar support, SYNC and SYNC with AppLink and the MyKey feature. SYNC is voice-activated technology that lets you select music, make phone calls and use apps by voice command. MyKey reminds you to put on your seat belt, can be programmed to alert you if you drive over a certain speed, allows you to control which radio stations can be tuned in and how loud the radio volume will go. It also warns you when the gas tank is getting too close to empty.

The sassy Raptor has a slightly wider wheelbase and comes with a twin-turbo 3.5L V6 EcoBoost High Output Engine, 4-wheel drive, and the 10-Speed Electronic Automatic Transmission with the Tow/Haul and Sport Mode. It also comes with a whole list of great features that make taking it off road a little safer and a lot more fun.

Ford’s 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine and 10-speed automatic transmission are a couple of the best standard features on the 2017 F-150 Limited edition. It also comes with SYNC 3 and SYNC Connect, SiriusXM radio, voice-activated navigation with SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link, an 8″ productivity screen, MyKey and so much more.

What kind of gas mileage does the new F-150's get?

20

The estimated mpg, or miles per gallon, with the F-150’s, is pretty darn good for a powerful truck. The XL and XLT get around 18 mpg in the city and 24 on the highway. The Raptor is not quite as good on gas, as you might expect. It gets 15 in the city and 18 on the highway.

The higher-end models get a little better gas mileage. The King Ranch gets the same mileage as the Raptor in the city, but it gets 22 mpg on the highway. The classy Platinum edition gets the same mileage as the King Ranch, but the slightly classier Limited edition does a bit better at 18 city and 25 highway.
