All-New & Stunning Jeep Wrangler

Jeep gave the Wrangler a major overhaul. They refined the look of the Wrangler without changing it too much. It still has that rugged, boxy appearance. One of the changes Wrangler lovers will notice right away is the lights embedded in the front wheel-well covers. The Wrangler also got a new engine option as well as some of the latest technology for improved fuel efficiency, safety, and infotainment.

1

What's different about the Jeep Wrangler?

Those new lights in the wheel-well covers are the turn-signal lights. They were moved from beneath the headlights. The grille is a bit more rounded. That change was most likely done in an effort to better comply with current pedestrian impact safety standards. A new turbocharged engine has been added to the options menu. The interior has been redesigned and updated with the latest infotainment technology. New active assist safety systems are also available for the new Wrangler, which is called the Wrangler JL.

2

What are the Jeep trims this year?

The new Jeep comes in four different trims: Sport, Sport S, Sahara and Rubicon. All but the Sahara are available in either two- or four-door models. The Sahara only comes with four doors. Wrangler Unlimited models are the four-door models.

If you're a serious off-roader, the Sahara and Rubicon trims are what you will most likely want. The Sport S, however, has the best balance of hi-tech features for your daily commute and weekend off-roading at a very reasonable price.

3

Is the new Jeep a five-passenger vehicle?

The Jeep Wrangler can be either a four- or five-passenger SUV. Two-door models only have room for four, including the driver, and the back seat is not very roomy. Four-door models seat five with plenty of room in the back for adults to ride comfortably. Two-door and four-door models have two sets of LATCH connectors for child seats in the outer positions of the back seat.

4

Is the newly designed Wrangler much more expensive?

A redesigned two-door Wrangler Sport has a base MSRP of $26,995. That's $3,000 more than the MSRP for an older-style Wrangler Sport. A four-door new-design Sport starts out at $30,495. The two-door Sport S trim has a starting price of $30,195. The four-door Sahara has a starting price of $37,345, and the two-door Rubicon has a base MSRP of $36,995.

5

What's the difference between the Jeep Wrangler JL and Wrangler JK?

In a nutshell, the Wrangler JL is the newly updated Jeep Wrangler. The Wrangler JK is the older-style Wrangler, the same style that was made in 2018, but it is still being manufactured in 2019.

6

Is there a new engine option available or the Wrangler?

Yes, there is. The Wrangler JL comes standard with a 285-hp 3.6-L V6 Pentastar engine with start-stop technology. The new optional engine is a 270-hp 2.0-L four-cylinder turbocharged engine. You can only get the 2.0-L engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The standard 3.6-L engine can be paired with either a six-speed manual transmission or the new eight-speed automatic.

Another new engine is in the works for the 2019 model. It will be a 262-hp EcoDiesel 3.0-L V6 engine.

7

How fuel-efficient is the new Jeep Wrangler?

This is one of the new Wrangler's drawbacks. It is not a fuel-efficient vehicle, although it does get about the same mileage as most of its competitors. A Wrangler JL with a 3.6-L engine gets 16 to 18 mpg in the city and 20 to 23 mpg on the highway. The new 2.0-L engine will likely get better mileage, but those figures are not out just yet.

8

Does the Jeep Wrangler come with a state-of-the-art infotainment system?

The standard infotainment system is adequate. It includes an eight-speaker stereo, the Uconnect infotainment system, Bluetooth connectivity, two USB and auxiliary ports and a 5" touchscreen. An Alpine stereo system, Wi-Fi hotspot, satellite radio, a better Uconnect system, navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and a 7" or 8.4" touchscreen are available upgrades.

9

What type of active-assist safety features does the new Wrangler have?

Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Path Detection, Hill Start Assist, a Parkview rear back-up camera and the Parksense rear park assist system are included in the Jeep Active Safety Group. This is an available option on all but the base trim that costs an additional $895.

10

How much cargo room does the new Wrangler have?

Four-door models have a total of 72 cubic feet of cargo room with the back seat folded flat. With the back seat in place, there are 32 cubic feet of cargo space in the back. Two-door models have a total of 47 cubic feet of cargo space with the back seat flat and nearly 13 cubic feet behind the back seats.

11

Is there an SUV that's better than the new Wrangler?

The Jeep Wrangler is an SUV that is designed specifically for off-road rock-climbing which can also be used for commuting back and forth to work in moderate comfort. The new Wrangler comes standard with skid plates, part-time four-wheel drive. Beefed-up suspensions and locking differentials are standard on the higher trim levels. If that is what you're looking for, it will be hard to beat. Even so, there are a couple of other options that you should consider before buying.

The Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk might be a better option if you're a hardcore Jeep fan. It's not quite as good for off-roading, but it is more comfortable for driving back and forth to work. The Trailhawk starts at $30,995 and gets 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway.

The Toyota 4Runner is another good contender that is worth a look. It has more cargo space, but it costs more and gets about the same mileage as the Wrangler. The 4Runner has a total of 88.8 cubic feet of cargo space with the back seats folded down and 47.2 cubic feet with the seats in place. It gets 17 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway. A 4Runner SR5, which is the base trim level, has a starting MSRP of $34,410.
