How budget-friendly is the 2018 Terrain?

Base MSRP for the 2018 Terrain SL, which is the lowest trim, is $24,995. The next trim level up is the SLE with a base price of $27,900. The SLT starts out at $31,400. The top trim level is the Terrain Denali. Base MSRP for that one is $37,600.


Are there several engine options for the 2018 Terrain?

There are two gas-powered engine options and a diesel option. GMC can equip the Terrain with a 1.5-L turbocharged gas engine, a 2.0-L turbocharged gas engine or a 1.6-L diesel-powered engine. The 1.5-L gas engine delivered 170 hp and 203 lb-ft torque. The 2.0-L gas engine produces 252 hp and 260 lb-ft. torque. Both of the gas-powered engines come with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The 1.6-L diesel engine comes with a six-speed transmission. It produces 137 hp and 240 lb-ft of torque.


How fuel efficient is the new Terrain?

The 2018 Terrain, with its lighter, smaller size, gets slightly better mileage than the 2017 model. You can expect to get 26 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway in a 2018 Terrain equipped with the 1.5-L gas-powered engine. The 2017 model only got 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. If you opt for the 2018 Terrain with a diesel engine, however, you can expect to get 28 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway.

Is there much room for cargo in the Terrain?

There are 29.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind the back seat. If you fold the back seat flat, you get 63.3 cubic feet of cargo room. That's a respectable amount of cargo space, but many other compact crossovers have more room in the main cargo area. GMC met that challenge with a front passenger seat that folds flat to give you a total of 81 cubic feet of cargo room. That little bit of added space makes it much easier to haul longer items.


Can you tow a trailer with a Terrain?

Yes, you can use the Terrain to haul a trailer with a maximum payload of 1,500 pounds.


Do active assist safety features come standard on the 2018 Terrain?

All 2018 Terrain trims come with a Teen Driver system that lets parents help their teen drive more safely. It also allows parents to track their teen's driving habits. All trims come with a six-speaker stereo system, a GMC Infotainment System that includes voice-activated phone technology, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. An OnStar 4G LTE WiFi hotspot, Guidance Plan Limited Trial, and five-year basic plan are also standard on all Terrain models.
