Check Out These 2018 Supercars

Supercars grab our attention with their ultra-aerodynamic bodies and incredible speeds. We are entranced by their performance and looks whenever we see them. Its impossible to not find yourself stopping, staring and taking pictures or videos. They're captivating - even if over 90 percent of us could only never afford to own one in our dreams. Well, just in case you've gotten bored with what's been out there, here are the answers to questions you may have about the new 2018 supercars.

1

Is a supercar defined by the size of its engine?

The term 'supercar' is, to a certain extent, defined by how much horsepower its engine makes, but that's not the only consideration. For example, the 2018 Tushek Renovatio T500 is classified as a supercar, even though its 4.2-L Audi RS4 engine only makes 450 hp and 315 lb-ft of torque. That doesn't seem very powerful by today's standards, but it goes from 0 to 60 mpg in just 3.7 seconds. It can manage that time with only 450 hp because the car only weighs 1,090 kilograms or just over 2,400 pounds. If you're taking this car to the track, though, you'd better get that quick start. The car's top speed is just 192 mph which is a little low in comparison to almost every other supercar out there.

2

Is there a supercar named after a flower?

Yes, there is, and it even looks like the flower it's named after. The Vanda Dendrobium is a car manufactured by Vanda Electrics based in Singapore with assistance from Williams Advanced Engineering in England. It is named after two species of orchids, Vandas and Dendrobiums. When the rear-hinged doors and roof are fully open, the car actually looks like an orchid flower. This supercar is classified as a hypercar because of its extreme uniqueness and power. It will be an all-wheel-drive car powered by four electric motors placed between the wheels. The plan is to make the car go from 0 to 60 in 2.7 seconds with a top speed of over 200 mph, a lofty goal for an all-electric car. The Dendrobium is still in the pre-production phase, even though the concept car was at the Geneva show back in March 2017. Word is not yet out on whether or not this car is going into production. That will be determined by how many orders they get. If it does go into production, these cool-looking orchid supercars won't be seen on the streets until 2020. Lotus is also a type of flower, but Lotus Cars Limited doesn't name their cars after flowers.

3

Is the 2018 Lamborghini Aventador considered a supercar?

Yes, the Aventador is most definitely a supercar. It has been a Lamborghini supercar mainstay since 2011 with the Aventador J, Aventador S and Aventador SuperVeloce. The Centenario was also based on the Aventador. Lamborghini made only 40 of them in 2016 and 2017. The most recent Aventador models are the LP750-4 SuperVeloce Roadster, LP740-4 S, and the LP740-4 S Roadster. The S Roadster comes equipped with a mid-rear 6.5-L V12 engine that makes 730 hp. It goes from 0 to 60 in 2.9 seconds.

4

Is the Hennessey Venom GT the fastest supercar?

No, the fastest supercar is currently the Koenigsegg Agera RS. It took the record from the Venom GT in 2017 with a top speed of 284 mph. The last of 25 Agera RS hypercars rolled off the assembly line in March 2018. They were equipped with turbocharged 5.0-L V8 engines that make 1,160 hp and 944 lb-ft of torque. Hennessey's Venom GT was the previous record holder with a top speed of 270 mph. According to driver Brian Smith, that number was limited by the end of the runway at the Kennedy Space Center. The Venom GT was created using the body of a Lotus Exige/Elise. Under the hood is a 1,244-bhp 7.0-L turbocharged V8 that makes 1155 lb-ft of torque at 4400 rpm. The Venom GT took the record from the Bugatti Veyron SuperSport in 2014. Hold on to your top-speed-record hats, though. Hennessey's Venom F5 is closing in fast on the Agera RS's bumper and threatening to blow by at 300 mph.

5

Isn't the Bugatti Chiron one of the fastest supercars?

The 2018 Chiron is definitely one of the fastest hypercars available with a mechanically-limited top speed of 261 mph. The speedometer goes up to 310 mph, but there aren't any street-legal tires rated for speeds that high. The Chiron comes with an 8.0-L quad-turbocharged W16 engine under the hood. It makes 1,479 hp at 6,700 rpm, 1,180 lb-ft of torque at 2,000 rpm and goes from 0 to 60 in 2.3 seconds. Will Bugatti take back the world speed record with the new Chiron? Only time will tell.

6

What is the most powerful Ferrari supercar?

The new 812 Superfast is expected to be the fastest Ferrari yet. The number '8' in the name represents 800 hp, and the '12' represents the V12 engine. The 6.5-L V12 engine actually makes 789 hp and 530 lb-ft of torque. This new supercar is supposedly capable of going from 0 to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds and finishing the quarter mile in 10.8 seconds. The 2018 Ferrari Portofino will come in at a close second with its 3.9-L V8 engine. It makes 591 hp, 561 lb-ft of torque and goes from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds or less. Ferrari says the Portofino has a top speed above 199 mph. The Portofino is a much-improved replacement for the Ferrari California.
