The 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350

Ford made cosmetic changes to the 2018 Mustang and Mustang GT but not to the Mustang Shelby GT350 and GT350R. The Shelby GTs only got a few new paint colors for 2018. The GT350 and GT350R might not have gotten any rousing updates because Ford has been focusing all of their efforts on a new racehorse for the stable. The new Shelby GT500 is fast approaching the production line.

Isn't there supposed to be a new Mustang Shelby GT in 2018?

The big, bad Mustang Shelby GT500 has been in the works for well over a year now. An early prototype was spotted back in August 2016. The preproduction process is progressing nicely, though. Test mule sightings are being reported fairly regularly now with the most recent being just two weeks ago. It was spied back in July benchmarking a Porsche 911 GT3. The GT500 looks and sounds very impressive. Unfortunately, Ford is frustratingly tight-lipped about this newest racehorse.

So far, rumor has it that the GT500 will be powered by a forced-induction V-8 or a twin-turbo 5.0-L Coyote V-8. Although, it could get a supercharged 5.2-L Voodoo V-8. We do know Ford had to make extra room for the motor by bumping up the center of the hood. The engine they end up with is expected to produce right around 700 hp. The standard transmission will probably be a six-speed manual. A ten-speed automatic will likely be an option. Hopefully, this will all be decided very soon. The GT500 is still expected to be available toward the end of 2018.
