We all love watching videos of super expensive sports cars. Sadly the truth is that most of us only get to drive them when we’re dreaming. For the rich folks, buying one of these super-fast beasts is like buying candy. When someone spends millions on a car, they want more than just performance; the car has to elevate their status in society. The world is owned by a few filthy rich tycoons and celebrities, and that’s why these super expensive cars are manufactured in small numbers.
Celebrities are especially notorious for rubbing it in our faces every time they buy a supercar. For instance, we have become accustomed to an Instagram post of Boxer Floyd Mayweather driving his Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita, Wayne Rooney buying a new Aventador or Christiano Ronaldo’s love for the Bugatti Chiron. Beyonce and Jay Z took it a notch higher when they bought a 'baby' Ferrari for their daughter Blue Ivy. Today, we’ll take a look at the most expensive new vehicle in the market, the Rolls-Royce Sweptail.
What is the Rolls-Royce Sweptail?
The Rolls-Royce Sweptail is a thing of beauty, a statement of class and opulence. It is a one-off custom build car that is based on vintage luxury yachts that were manufactured in the 1920s and ’30s. It gets its name from a sweeping rear that is very similar to the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail Speedster. The owner is a collector of private planes and super-yachts. The Sweptail also gets its inspiration from 1934 Phantom II Streamline and 1934 Gurney Nutting Phantom II. According to Giles Taylor, the Rolls Royce Design Director, this coupe can be compared to Haute Couture.
So how much does it cost?
If you are a mere mortal like me, then you will be shell-shocked by its absurd price tag, a whopping $13M! Yes, you will need to sell both of your legs so that you can afford it. It was made upon the request of a “valued customer” who even participated in designing it. Perfection cannot be rushed, and that’s why this masterpiece took four years to be made.
What does the interior offer?
The two-seat interior is made with a flair of minimalism; it can be described as clean and neat; in fact, buttons and dials cannot be seen easily. The interior was personalized to suit the needs of the owner; it comes with dark wood finishes and white leather. The super car’s interior is all about luxury, and that’s why Rolls-Royce uses Macassar Ebony and open-pore Paldao wood. Rolls even went as far as customizing the passenger's cockpit; they created two special lockers to carry two briefcases. These compartments were made to carry the owner's laptop. Its uses machined titanium to run its analog clock. The center console has also been pimped to look like a small pub; it will allow the owner to serve two crystal champagnes flutes and a bottle of champagne. The interior is both beautiful and luxurious. In its trunk, there is space for custom luggage and a unique shelf for carrying a hat.
What is hidden under the hood?
We don’t know much about the Sweptail’s engine because Rolls-Royce has not revealed this information. However, it is rumored to have a 6.75-liter V-12 engine that is borrowed from the current-generation Phantom platform. The speed of this vehicle remains unconfirmed, but it is rumored to hit a top speed of 250 km/hr.
So who bought it?
We would like to give you the juicy gossip about who bought this car, but the owner requested to maintain their anonymity. We think that the buyer comes from a UK-dependent country because the Sweptail is right wheeled. Rolls-Royce has shown its respect for its clientele by designing this car with a consumer while still protecting their identity; in fact, they didn’t even reveal the country of origin or gender of the buyer. I don’t know who the buyer is, but I would certainly want them to adopt me.
Should we expect more cars like this?
Rolls-Royce has expressed its satisfaction with the Sweptail. It has come to our attention that the company will continue coming up with more one-off models in the future while still maintaining the originality of each brand.
