Which Japanese car maker is the most reliable?

Toyota is the number one Japanese car manufacturer, according to J.D. Power's 2017 Vehicle Dependability Study. On their rating scale, which goes from 1 to 100, with 1 being worst and 100 being best, Toyota got a customer satisfaction rating of 86 for 2017 and 85 for 2016.

Subaru ranks a very close second to Toyota. They received a customer satisfaction rating of 85 for 2017 and 84 for 2016.

Mazda, which is another Japanese automobile manufacturer, got a customer satisfaction rating of 82 for 2017 and 80 for 2016.

Honda ranks below Mazda in reliability, with a customer satisfaction rating of 81. That is down from 86 in 2016.

Nissan comes in behind Honda, with a rating of 80 for 2017 and 2016.

GMC is the most reliable American auto manufacturer. Their customer satisfaction rating is very close to Toyota's, with an 84 in 2017 and 2016.

Volkswagen is tied with Ford with a 2017 rating of 79. They got a rating of 78 in 2016. They lost customer confidence due to an unfortunate diesel engine scandal. Their sales are up by 5.9% in 2017, though, so they may be making a come-back.

Mitsubishi got a customer satisfaction rating of 78 in 2017 and 79 in 2016. Their sales are up, too, by 4.6% so far this year.

Dodge received a rating of only 75 for 2017. That's down from 78 in 2016. Their sales are also up so far this year.

The Fiat is at the bottom of this list, with a customer satisfaction rating of 75 for 2017. Their sales are down this year.
