The Sleek and Sporty 2019 Volvo S60

After keeping the same styling year after year, Volvo redesigned the classic S60, and it's never looked better. Leaving behind its rounded features and conservative sensibility, the new S60 has the clean lines and sharper styling of a sports car, and the turbocharged engine to match. The lower stance of the 2019 lends it a cockier attitude than before.  America is the new home of the popular Volvo sedan, which will only be produced at the South Carolina plant.   The S60 faces some daunting rivals, including the Mercedes C-Class, BMW 3 Series, and the Audi A4. One of the obvious advantages the Volvo has is price. It is less expensive than all three of the rivals listed, both in the initial purchase price and cost of maintaining the vehicle. With its upgraded cabin and impressive standard package, the new S60 is definitely a strong contender.

How has Volvo changed the appearance of the S60 for 2019?

While you can certainly tell that it is a Volvo, the new S60 brings a new flamboyance to an old favorite. It kept the same basic look for years, so the sportier, low-slung look sets the 2019 apart from all earlier versions. The clean lines are noticeably more defined and less round in shape. This S60 features a look that is reminiscent of the S90, with the same C-shaped taillights. The thinner headlights give the 2019 a more striking appearance than its predecessors.

What upgrades, if any, have been made to the interior of the S60?

Volvo has given the S60 a very impressive interior that offers both a comfortable, luxurious ride and the latest in electronic features. Its standard package includes an upgraded 8-inch digital cluster that is sharp and clear. Also standard are Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a 10-speaker stereo system and infotainment system with a user-friendly 9-inch tablet-style touchscreen. Volvo offers some excellent upgrades to the technology, including a navigation system and your choice of a 13- or 15- speaker stereo system. For additional comfort along the way, you can upgrade the Comfort seats to Contour.

How powerful is the engine?

There are three engine options for the new S60: the T5, T6, and T8. Volvo has provided a substantial punch of power in their sedans, no matter which one you choose. The T5 packs 250 horsepower in its four cylinders, which is more than powerful enough for zipping around town. For even more swift acceleration, the T6 loads on an additional 66 horsepower and gives you 295 pound-feet of torque. The S60 hybrid version is equipped with the T8, which is a T6 with an electric motor. The T8 engine gives this plug-in sedan 400 horsepower and an added 200 pound-feet of torque. On all-electric, the T8 will take you approximately 21 miles.

How does the 2019 S60 perform?

The new Volvo S60 gives its passengers a smooth, quiet ride that is hard to beat. Between the comfort of the upgraded seats to the way it glides effortlessly over the road, it is a joy to travel in. While there are others in this class that provide more sporty handling, like the BMW 3-Series, Volvo brings fantastic performance at a lower price.

How much does the new S60 cost?

Compared with the heavy-hitters in the class, such as the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, the 2019 Volvo S60 is much more affordable. The base model S60 has a manufacturer's suggested retail price that starts at $35,800, which is about $5,400 less its closest Mercedes competitor. The C-Class does have one of the finest cabins in this division, but it is also more expensive to maintain than the S60.

How much room does the 2019 have?

The S60 4-door sedan seats five people and gives them a comfortable experience, especially for the two in front. Volvo gives you 11.6 cubic feet of trunk space in the 2019, which, while ample, is a pretty common measurement for this class of automobile.

What safety features are available?

The 2019 Volvo S60 comes with an impressive list of standard safety features, including a rear-view camera, off-road mitigation, road sign recognition, and lane keep assist. It is also equipped with Volvo's City Safe system, which combines forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and pedestrian detection. Volvo offers a fine mix of optional safety features, as well. You can add blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, surround-view parking camera, parallel parking assist, adaptive headlights, front and rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, and Pilot Assist.

Does it get good gas mileage?

Volvo has made a reputation for producing fuel-efficient automobiles, and the new S60 continues this tradition. Despite its powerful engine, the standard front-wheel drive gets an estimated 24 miles per gallon in the city and 36 mpg on the highway. If you opt for all-wheel drive, you will only lose a bit of that efficiency, with 21 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway.

What do the different trim levels offer?

There are four trim levels for the 2019 S60: Momentum, Inscription, R-Design, and Polestar Engineered. The Momentum is the base level S60, equipped with the T5 engine and a great standard electronics infotainment package. The Inscription adds exclusive luxury details, including chrome-trimmed front grille, wood trim, and leather trim in an array of colors. The R-Design's contour seats raise the style and pleasure of the ride. Drivers will love the more responsive handling of the R-Design and the power of the T8 engine in the hybrid. The Polestar Engineered is a performance plug-in hybrid sedan that offers a breathtaking ride. With the style of a performance vehicle and sumptuous interior, fully packed with the newest technology, the Polestar has it all.

What kind of warranty comes with the new S60?

Volvo offers a 4-year/50,000-mile limited warranty with all its vehicles. This is similar to what is available for other cars in this class.
