In spite of being tidied up a bit in 2015, the Cadillac ATS has struggled to keep up with the competition. And It sadly ended up falling short. It has finally been given some much-needed updates for 2018. The changes are primarily cosmetic, but not all of them. Cadillac has given the ATS a couple of nice technological updates. One of which should make a big difference.
How many trim levels are available for the 2018 ATS?
Cadillac actually makes three different ATS models. They make a four-door ATS sedan, a two-door ATS coupe, and the four-door ATS-V sedan. The ATS sedan and coupe are available in four different trims. You can get either of them in the base trim, Luxury, Premium Luxury or Premium Performance. The ATS-V sedan only has one trim level.
Can you get an all-wheel-drive 2018 ATS?
The new ATS coupe and sedan are available in either rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive. AWD models are about $2,000 more than the RWD models. The 2018 ATS-V sedan is only available with RWD.
What did Cadillac change on the new ATS?
They eliminated the Moonstone Metallic, Deep Amethyst Metallic, and Bronze Dune Metallic paint colors and added Satin Steel Metallic. The new color is a premium color that will cost an additional $625.
The Carbon Black Package and Black Sport Appearance Package are no longer available. Cadillac also eliminated the CD glovebox-mounted optical drive.
The 2018 ATS comes with a brand new CUE version 3 infotainment system. They also replaced the old manually operated heated steering wheel with a heated steering wheel that heats up automatically as needed based on the temperature in the car.
Is the 2018 ATS sedan very expensive?
The ATS is reasonably priced for a top-rated luxury vehicle. The ATS sedan has a base MSRP of $35,495 to $47,895 for RWD models. The 2018 ATS coupe costs between $38,495 and $50,395. The base MSRP for the ATS-V sedan is $61,595.
Does the ATS coupe get good gas mileage?
The 2018 ATS coupe is fairly fuel efficient with 22 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. The ATS sedan gets 20-22 mpg in the city and 30-31 mpg on the highway, depending on which engine you get. The ATS-V sedan is not quite as efficient. It only gets 16 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway.
How many passengers is the ATS built for?
Five people can ride in an ATS sedan. The ATS coupe is only built for four people, including the driver.
What size motor does the 2018 ATS come with?
The ATS sedan and ATS coupe come with either a 2.0-L Turbo, 272-hp engine or a 3.6-L V6, 335-hp engine. The ATS-V sedan comes with a 3.6-L V6 Twin Turbo engine that produces 464 hp and 445 lb-ft of torque. It goes from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds.
What type of infotainment system does the 2018 ATS come with?
The brand new Cadillac User Experience or CUE infotainment system is a big improvement over previous versions. It is a more user-friendly system that comes standard in all 2018 ATS trims.
The lower trims get the CUE without navigation, and the higher trims get it with navigation. Features included in the CUE infotainment system are an 8" touchscreen, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a Bose premium surround sound 10- or 12-speaker stereo, voice recognition, three USB ports and an auxiliary input jack. The 2018 ATS also comes with an OnStar 4G LTE WiFi hotspot; a 1-year paid OnStar Guidance Plan and wireless charging.
Does the new ATS come with the latest safety features?
Cadillac put lots of hi-tech safety features in the 2018 ATS. Many of them come standard while others are available as add-on options. Front Brembo performance brakes, a rearview camera, a StabiliTrak electronic stability control system, child safety locks and Teen Driver controls are standard on the new ATS. It also comes with an OnStar suite of emergency assistance features like Automatic Crash Response and Emergency Services.
Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Front and Rear Park Assist, Forward and Reverse Automatic Braking, Forward Automatic Braking, Forward Collision Alert and a Following Distance Indicator are either standard or available on the higher trim levels.
Has the Cadillac ATS gotten good safety ratings?
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the 2018 ATS a five-star Overall Safety Rating. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) hasn't fully tested it; however, the 2017 model received a Superior rating on the Front Crash Prevention test. They gave it a Poor rating for the headlights, though.
