The 2019 Nissan Altima offers a lot of value. It now comes with two new engines, crisp styling, an available AWD as well as more standard safety and tech features. This midsize sedan has a sporty attitude and a new look. The Altima’s redesign has come after last year’s redesign of the Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord. These two sedans were the best sellers in 2018, but the Altima is simply untouchable in 2019, it is the MC Hammer in the segment of midsize sedans.
This all-wheel-drive sedan is the first in [search label="Nissan’s" items="Nissan Dealership|Mazda Dealership|Honda Dealership|Ford Dealership"] history. The Altima now offers improved driving dynamics, new styling as well as more safety features like near-autonomous driver-assist. It still comes with two engines but a fresh turbocharged 4-cylinder has replaced the V6, and there is a dramatic change in the standard 4-cylinder. It is also more rigid and lighter when compared to its predecessor.
What do we love and hate about it?
We love that it offers all-wheel drive, a spacious cabin and a powerful optional turbo four. However, we don’t love the SR's flinty ride. We also think that the rear-seat area is quite noisy.
How much power does it generate?
The 188 hp four-cylinder engine has a capacity of 2.5 liters, and it delivers 180 pound-feet; this engine is the volume seller of the new Altima. This is an improvement from the previous generation which offered 179 horsepower and 177 lb-ft. On the other hand, the new 248 hp four-cylinder turbocharged option has a capacity of 2.0 liters, and it delivers 280 lb-ft. Only the front-wheel-drive trims will have this powerplant.
What do we think about the Altima’s interior?
When compared to previous models, the new Altima offers many goodies thanks to its redesigned interior. It boasts of nicer materials and color schemes that are more chic. It comes with a new infotainment system that has interesting stuff like handsfree text messaging, a standard touchscreen that is 8-inch big, Bluetooth, Android Auto connectivity and Apple CarPlay. The features are user-friendly. You can easily access and control the audio knobs, climate controls, and the screen. It is also important to note that both rows offer USB-C ports and USB. Interestingly, the overall vehicle length and the longer wheelbase don’t result in more passenger room. However, there is plenty of room in the interior. The front headroom is not that bad, but the rear and front legroom and the rear headroom are down slightly.
What about the exterior?
The first thing that stands out about the new Altima is its new look. If it was a Kardashian, then it would be Caitlyn Jenner who is famous for her complete transformation. It has a hunkered-down stance because of its new dimensions that are lower, longer and wider. The new styling means that the new Altima has a sharper and smoother nose as well as chiseled lines. The styling reminds me of the big-brother Maxima; this is because of its fresh angular C-pillar design. The sporty SR comes with 19-inch wheels, body-color door handles, a dark chrome grille, LED headlights and side-mirror black caps.
Who will love it?
The Altima has a sporty attitude, and it is also family-friendly and comfortable. The SR model is the best choice for buyers who really want sportiness; this model has a 248-horsepower engine, new suspension tuning, 19-inch wheels, and paddle shifters. In addition to this, it has a big advantage in the snow belt because it offers all-wheel drive, this is better than most rivals. If you are looking for the above qualities in a [search label="midsize sedan" items="Hyundai Sonata|Kia Optima|Honda Civic|Toyota Camry"], then the Altima is the car for you.
Who will not like it?
This is not the right car for a person who is looking for a [search label="hybrid" items="best hybrid cars|toyota avalon hybrid|honda accord hybrid|ford fusion hybrid"]. To get a hybrid in this segment, you will have to go for the Ford Fusion, Kia Optima, Honda Accord, Hyundai Sonata or the Toyota Camry. The segment also offers more upscale and sportier options. The Altima can only be described as a middle-of-the-road sedan.
