The 2019 Audi A4 was recently captured by the cameras of car journalists. It might be a surprise to many, but it had very little camouflage. Yes, it was like a girl in a swimming costume. The facelifted vehicle was seen during a test run. When it hits the market, it will feature a slightly improved interior and subtle styling differences. This small sedan received a shakeup in 2018 with the inclusion of new standard features and a Black Optic Plus package. These changes came after it received a redesign in 2017. It has hard body lines, many angles and the classic Audi styling.
What do we think about the styling?
The 2019 Audi A4 has a look that is very similar to the current car unless the pre-production model is concealing a radical facelift. However, a closer look reveals some minimal changes. It now has new angled lower grilles in its tweaked bumper. It has a subtle spoiler and new exhaust tips in the rear. The A4 is a handsome car and a big seller already, and therefore there is no need for a thorough change in styling. As the saying goes, if it is working then don’t fix it.
What does the interior offer?
The interior of this vehicle will only get a mid-life refresh. Unlike the A7, A6, and the A8 which have a dash that has a plumbed infotainment screen, the new Audi A4 will not feature ultra-modern looks. The prototype of the new A4 features a ‘floating’ unit on the center console. The car maintains its premium feeling and freshness thanks to a highly improved cabin. It now has extra safety technology. It now offers slightly better usability and quicker response times because of its software updates in the Virtual Cockpit and infotainment systems.
Which features will remain the same?
The base engine should remain as it was in the 2018 version. It will have a 252 hp four-cylinder turbocharged engine that delivers 273 pound-feet of torque. The standard features are likely to remain the same. They include leather upholstery, an audio system with ten speakers, 17-inch wheels, a rearview camera, power front seats with heat, automatic xenon headlights, tri-zone climate control, and a sunroof.
Which optional features stand out?
The Audi S Line offers the new Competition package as an option in the A4. This package adds Audi Sport 19-inch wheels that have been fine-tuned for specific models, Turbo Blue paint, sport-tuned suspension, LED headlights and red brake calipers. The interior gets dark partial-leather sport seats, three-spoke steering wheels that perform many functions and carbon inlays. The S4 performance model also offers the partial-leather sport seats.
Which body frames will be available in the U.S.?
Audi will offer the Allroad wagon and sedan body styles in the U.S. market. The Allroad looks more like an SUV when compared to the A4 Avant wagon. The Allroad has an exterior cladding and a raised ride height. We don’t know if the U.S. consumers will see the more hardcore RS 4 model and the sportier S4.
When is the release date?
The new Audi A4 will be available at the beginning of 2019. We have come to this conclusion because the pre-production model lacks camo. Buyers will spend just above £28,000 to acquire the entry-level model.
What do we think about it?
The current-generation of this vehicle has been available elsewhere, but it only arrived in the U.S. in 2016. The U.S.-spec A4 will be quite similar to the European version. We have been missing out on this luxury sedan. We feel that the A4 has maintained its freshness by introducing its minor styling tweaks. We recommend it.
